2 Places You Can Get Class A CDL Truck Driver Training

About Me
shipping fragile collectibles

Some of the most difficult things to ship are made of glass. When I inherited most of the contents of my grandmother's house, I decided to sell the collectibles that were stored throughout. It was a difficult decision for me to make, not because of the sentimental value of these things, but because I was worried about how I would ship the stuff without it getting broken. Fortunately, I learned a lot about shipping these fragile items and have included much of what I learned here on my blog. You will find that it is possible to ship fragile items without any worries about it getting broken.

When traveling down the highway, it is hard to avoid the driver-wanted signs on the backs of most eighteen-wheelers you pass by. Some trucks even advertise how often you can get home, starting salaries, or the sign-on bonuses currently offered by the company. Being a Class A CDL truck driver can be a very lucrative career. Fortunately, several places offer training if you dream of driving a big rig up and down the nation's highways. Here are a few.

1. Your Local Community College

Many local community colleges across the nation offer entry-level Class A CDL truck driver training. The colleges provide all the components of the entry-level driver training requirements and on-the-road training.

The completeness of the community college program will ensure you meet the minimum federal requirements. Completing the CDL classes positions you to take specific commercial driver's license skills and sit for your knowledge tests.

Community colleges design their classes for the following:

  • Anyone attempting to obtain a CDL (Class A or B) for the first time
  • Anyone trying to upgrade their existing Class B to a Class A
  • Anyone attempting to add hazardous materials endorsements for the first time

The community college may also offer classes for those seeking school bus licenses or commercial bus licenses. The community college will typically charge tuition and fees for training, but grants or loans may be available to reduce or assist you with the cost.

When you complete your training, community colleges also offer job placement services to help you find a position with a trucking company. With the high demand for Class A CDL truck drivers, you will not have a problem finding a job.

2. Company-Sponsored Programs

Many trucking companies offer their own Class A CDL truck driver training programs. There are numerous advantages to receiving your training through company-sponsored programs.

Truck driving school can be costly, depending on where you receive your training. Company-sponsored programs are typically tuition free. You are trained as an employee of the company and receive pay while in training.

Company-sponsored programs also guarantee employment once you complete the program. You don't have to worry about looking for a job.

Unfortunately, guaranteed employment with the company can also be a disadvantage to completing a company-sponsored program. Most programs require you to stay with the company for a specific period following the completion of the program. If you leave before completing your contract, a financial penalty is typically attached.
